Rail network function is a combination of Total Network Engineering (also known as infrastructure), RME, Fleet, SCS and Total Security Management.
Rail Networks primary focus is to maximise network availability through optimising maintenance and capital expenditure activities as well as providing safety and security to TFR assets and staff.

Purpose
Infrastructure commits to provide a cost effective Reliable, Available, Affordable and Safe network that is focused on performance efficiency to drive TFR sustainable volume growth and performance by Reducing failures/MTTR (faster reaction times and shorter repair times,) and Minimise Temporary Speed Restrictions across the network .
Real Estate is a critical enabler for Transnet Freight Rail to achieve its business objectives through the provision of office space, operational space and both rail and non-rail customer spaces in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
Real Estate Functional Areas
Strategy and Capacity Planning: Development of strategic initiatives and capacity planning for Real Estate.
Portfolio Asset Management (i.e. Management of owned land and buildings, Lease Management)
Engineering and Facilities Management: Development of standards and management of implementation
Hospitality and Training Centre: Management of restaurants and training facilities
Project Management and Administration: Project tracking, facilitation and implementation of projects

In an effort of effectively supporting business we are working on providing the customer a full Real Estates package as part of the total package provided to the customer by the Business Unit. Real Estate also ensures that the property leases are aligned to the business unit’s operational agreements.
