Launch of Waterval-Boven Footbridge

Thozama Mokoena, Managing Executive North-East Corridor officially hands over a refurished footbridge to the Waterval-Boven community

A refurbished Waterval Boven Footbridge was officially launched on the 14th November 2022 in Mpumalanga. For years the community had to cross a deep river gorge to access the TVET college through an old unsafe debilitated bridge.

Not only did TFR repair the bridge, the company also trained local youth to be professional Welders, donated to them industrial welding equipment and offered a robust business management training.

The Footbridge was worked on by these youth supervised by Transnet enigineers.

"It is a long-standing tradition of Transnet to partner with communities, so that we can make a sustainable impact. The community also need to own the initiative and look after it" added Thozama. This is classic example of share value business using Transnet and competencies to benefit communities.
